Crysis
I heard that this game, Crysis, is a hardware-demanding one, given the performance my pc gained upgrading my video card to a little bit higher one, I tried this game anyway and see how it performs in my rig. I tried it at maximum settings with some anti-aliasing and I just got around 20 FPS, still playable for me (I’m used to playing pc games at around 15 FPS
). But I decided I wanted my playing to be more smoother so I settled for high settings only and got me around 30 FPS. Well that’s smooth now so on with the playing.
This game was released on 2007 I believe and I never got to try and play the game back then since my machine wont allow it (very low end at the time of game’s release). Now when I get to try this one, I encountered some issues. The game was optimized for operating system prior to Windows 7! But since I read somewhere that it was tested and runs on Windows 7, I tried it myself but I have to set its compatibility mode to Vista (SP1 or SP2) and yes, it did run.
About the game, it does have a very good, cool-looking graphics. Sounds and effects were really great. Mouse + Keyboard default control settings are easy, doesn’t require to be reconfigured though the option if you want so is present. The physics is nice though sometimes some dead bodies does some weird animation (and looks funny). I especially like the Nanosuit worn by the main character. It does some nifty stuff, 4 modes to be exact: the armor mode – protects or reduces the damages received by the character; strength mode – gives a better aiming accuracy, makes melee attacks stronger, makes throwing objects farther, but for me, the main use of this mode is to have a boost at jumping to high places or terrain or roofs; speed mode – as the mode implies, gives that character a speed boost making him move faster; and my favorite, cloak mode, makes the character invisible as long as the suit-energy does not drains out.
The weapons in the game are futuristic. One of the game’s feature I really like is the ability to attach or detach weapon modifications like silencer, grenade launcher, sniper scope and so on. You also get to ride some vehicles.
The storyline is good. It’s about a great discovery somewhere in the South China Sea by some archaeologists of an alien-like species and who were taken captive by the Koreans who are also interested in the discovery. The Americans then sent their spec-ops team, the main character included, to rescue the said archaeologists from the Koreans but later discovers that they will not be up against the Koreans but also the alien species.
In my own experience, I was right about not playing this game in my old low-end machine. The game can be greatly appreciated if played in a nice machine were you can play in at least high settings, running 30 FPS all throughout the game. If I’m going to score this game from 1-10 (highest = 10), for me it’s 8.
