My wired broadband router is getting old and it seems that it is starting to perform a little less reliable and disconnections are kind of becoming frequent so I guess it’s time to change it. I got my little home network a new router, the D-Link DI-604, since the interface is new to me, I have to familiarize myself with it. Fortunately, the device’s user interface is pretty friendly so I got it setup easily. Though unfortunately, base on D-Link website, the product has already been discontinued as of June 1, 2008, I still managed to acquire one. I guess this device would just do fine for my simple home network needs.
The device has 4-port switch with 10/100 ethernet ports for direct connection of a small home or office network of up to 4 PCs or computer. After using it for a day, its performance so far is good. I just hope it would last long given that the product is now discontinued by D-Link.
The device’s specifications base on D-Link website:

I just upgraded my video card from Geforce 9400 GT to Palit Geforce 9800 GT Green 1GB. It was a necessary upgrade for some graphics and photo editing tasks and as well as some gaming. Well, I can say it’s a good card for value. I did some benchmark and compared it to my previous card and performance was really noticeable. Games having a low FPS, around 15 fps, jumps to a very nice and playable framerate at around 30-50 FPS and occasionally shoots over those rates. Continue reading ‘Palit Gecorce 9800 GT Green 1GB’

When I switched to Windows 7 and tried to access my WordPress blog from that machine and tried to enable Google Gears, I get to download the setup file but when run, I get this installation error code 0×8004071c. It’s the same thing also when I tried to install Google Chrome. As always, I tried to research about this particular issue and I found this post from Google support forum. I will just have some minor addition to the registry path for Windows 7. Continue reading ‘Google Chrome and Gears Installation error 0×8004071c’

I have a small home network which I maintain myself alone since nobody else at home is techie enough to do all those computer setup or configuration or settings tinkering stuff. When I got a hold of the new OS, Windows 7 Ultimate x64, I immediately looked for a hack for concurrent sessions in the said OS. Like in my previous post about concurrent sessions for Vista, I also looked at the same site and found that hack their for Windows 7 RTM build 7600.16385 for Professional and Ultimate edition both x86 and x64 OS. Link for the said article is here. I just followed the instructions written in the article and I got remote desktop connection sessions concurrently with other users using the Windows 7 system.

When I setup my rig, I had to fit all components within my very limited budget. As I don’t have “hardcore-graphics-demanding” application to run in mind just yet (even hardcore gaming), I went for my top priority, being able to run many apps simultaneously or multi-tasking. I chose to limit my rig to a somewhat lower graphics card but with good quality in order to have a higher budget for my CPU. Just to have my rig up and running for the tasks I must do, I got my rig with a Sparkle 9400GT PCI-e video card.
